EMU approves expansion of facilities totaling $76M

Michigan– Eastern Michigan University (EMU) approved three capital projects for the coming year totaling $76 million. Among these projects is a $40 million renovation and expansion of Sill Hall and a $20 million sports medicine and athlete training facility. The project also includes the construction of a video board inside Rynearson Stadium. More than 92,000 square feet of Sill Hall will be renovated with an¬†expansion of 16,000 square feet.¬†The athlete training facility calls for the construction of a 60,000-square-foot structure that will house performance training space and equipment, team meeting rooms and coaches’ offices.


A $16 million renovation of the recreation and intramural sports facility is expected to be initiated in summer of 2018. The project will renovate 72,000 square feet of existing space while constructing an addition of more than 33,000 square feet. Renovations include an area for free weights, a cardio area, a rock climbing wall and a game area with pool tables. The project also includes renovations to the Club Pool and its locker rooms. The project is in the initial phase of the Championship Building Plan and is designed to be heavily supported by fundraising efforts. The timeline for the project has not been finalized.
