Veterans Affairs, Hawaii Department of Education agree on $9.9M facility

Hawaii- Hawaii’s Department of Education has agreed to lease 4.5-acres of land to the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to create a consolidated, single-location VA clinic. The deal is contingent on the federally-run facility offering educational opportunities to students such as internships or mentorship programs that can provide students with volunteer opportunities which are required for graduation.
The VA facility will consolidate the Maui Vet Center in Maui Lani, the state Office of Veteran Services in Kahului and the VA’s Maui Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in Kahului into one location that will be equipped to provide counseling services, assistance with applications for medical benefits and general health care. A request for proposals (RFP) for the $9.9 million project is expected to be posted later this month. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 but will need federal and state environmental approval before construction can begin.
